The Kamatchi villaku is primarily used in South India, particularly in Tamil Nadu. The flame of the lamp is considered to be a representation of the divine presence and is revered by the devotees. It is considered to be the most sacred of all lamps, some people have been preserving it from generation to generation. For prosperity, the bride and groom carry the kamatchi diya in their hands and the reason for lighting the kamakshi lamp first in the house is to get the blessings of all the deities. In earlier times, doing this was a simple way to obtain God's blessing. In addition to religious significance, it is also considered a beautiful decorative item. Many people use it as an ornamental piece in their homes, even when not actively used for worship.
